
I read Angela Davis' autobiography a few weeks ago. Her afro has stayed been in my mind's eye ever since.
I am reminded of the way that African women make art of their hair. I'm also reminded of the Nigerian American writer Chimamanda Ngozi Ndichie's pronouncement that Black women's hair is political.
Indeed it is.
All kinds of assumptions are made about who a Black woman is, what and who she knows, what she does, even what she eats based on her hairstyle.
